London Hit by Wave of Shootings, Stabbings, Illegal Raves
TEHRAN (FNA)- In the worst outbreak of serious violence in weeks five people have been injured in separate shootings across the British capital.

Two men were shot in Brixton on Friday evening, while another two people were shot at a party in Hackney in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to presstv.

A fifth person was reportedly injured in Croydon during a separate shooting.

The sharp rise in shootings and stabbings unfolds against the backdrop of the proliferation of illegal raves and street parties, as youths (some of whom belong to gangs) let off a steam during a summer of unrest.

The latest illegal rave to be disrupted by the Metropolitan Police took place at Tavistock Terrace and it involved at least 150 people.

The rave was reportedly disrupted by the Met Police in the early hours of Saturday morning.

But in a sign that the rave in Tavistock Square was just one of many such illegal gatherings taking place in the capital, Chief Superintendent Roy Smith of the Met Police tweeted, "Officers were out this evening closing down illegal and antisocial parties playing loud music into the early hours”.

"Packed groups of 150+ people risking the spread of COVID-19 and keeping poor families with young children awake at 3am," Ch Supt Smith complained.

With disturbances taking place very night (particularly at weekends), the Met Police is struggling to maintain law and order as the British capital, in line with the rest of the country, tries to recover from months of lockdown and related restrictions.
